Resurfacing Treatment Redefines Skin Texture
Smooth skin with refined texture and a healthy glow represents you beautifully in any situation. Silverado Medical & Aesthetic Clinic in Calgary helps men and women look their best with contemporary skin resurfacing treatment options.
WHY SKIN GETS COARSE
Healthy, youthful skin feels soft because it is well hydrated. An abundance of collagen and elastin keeps skin thick, taut, and smooth. As we age, our bodies produce less of these fibrous proteins, while sun exposure, smoking, and environmental pollutants simultaneously deplete stored collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic acid, a sugar that binds with water for internal hydration, also diminishes. Skin becomes thinner and dryer. It develops fine lines and a crepey texture.
A natural process called desquamation, or shedding of epidermal cells, keeps the complexion looking fresh. The average adult loses 30,000 to 40,000 skin cells per hour. The cell turnover rate is about twice that for children, since they are growing quickly. Babies and kids have luminous-looking skin because more new cells are at the surface. When desquamation slows with age, the complexion looks rough and dull.
Acne also impacts the cell renewal factor. Skin that is overpopulated with Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that triggers breakouts, typically produces a higher than average number of dead skin cells. The body cannot slough them off as quickly as they form, so they block hair follicles causing pimples and giving the complexion a lackluster appearance.
When acne clears, it often leaves scarring that mars skin texture with pits and other textural changes. Conditions such as rosacea, eczema, and dermatitis also roughen skin. Large pores and coarse skin can be a product of heredity, as well.
HOW SKIN RESURFACING HELPS
Skin resurfacing is a general term that describes an external process of removing outer skin layers, hastening cellular turnover, and potentially stimulating beneficial changes in deep skin layers. Throughout history facials and chemical peels (including Cleopatra’s famous milk baths) were used to improve superficial skin texture. Aggressive peels and microdermabrasion exfoliate a bit deeper. Today’s patients also have the option of Fractora fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing for elegant skin texture and a bright tone.
SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENT REFINES CALGARY COMPLEXIONS
“Ablation” is the removal of the outermost layers of skin. Non-ablative therapies pass through the surface to tighten and tone deep tissue layers. Fractional radiofrequency treatment combines the benefits of both methods for a more refined and radiant complexion.
Fractora treatment involves carefully controlled delivery of radiofrequency energy (waves of electric and magnetic energy moving together) into skin. The device contains an array of hair-fine pins that produce microcolumns in skin, concurrently heating tissues to create a thermal reaction. The body’s restructuring response speeds cell turnover at the surface while encouraging internal collagen remodeling. The doctor customizes penetration from non- or minimally-ablative up to one millimeter in depth, according to the patient’s needs.
Here are some of the benefits you can expect from fractional radiofrequency microneedling:
- Breaks up and smooths acne scars.
- Shrinks pores.
- Reduces depth of lines and wrinkles.
- Firms sagging skin.
- Improves pigmentation irregularities such as freckles, brown spots, melasma, superficial blood vessels, and red spots.
Treatment can be performed on virtually any area of the body, and for patients of all skin types. Fractora is ideal for nose, cheeks, neck, décolletage, around the lips, and smile lines. Because it does not use intense light (laser energy), it can be applied safely at upper and lower eyelids, too.
THE FRACTORA EXPERIENCE
While it varies, depending on the area of treatment, a session takes less than an hour. Treatment is well-tolerated with a topical numbing agent. Some patients experience mild swelling and redness for a few days, and you should expect up to a week of peeling while skin renews. In many cases, there is immediate and noticeable change, and improvement continues over several months as collagen builds. Some patients benefit from a second treatment, and many chose to keep their complexions glowing with periodic Fractora re-treatment.
Dr. Folake Pepple is dedicated to helping patients get the results they desire. She will talk with you about Fractora skin resurfacing alone, or in combination with other aesthetic services such as platelet-rich plasma and injectable treatments, for a healthy, attractive complexion.
